I really like this play on the tree falling in the woods. Inverting the Zen koan to point out that the west has taken leave of reality is both clever and accurate. Well done.
I will not dispute that much of what you wrote is true, but I'll add one more thing. Almost all regimes through the history show this "we make our own reality" towards the end of their shelf-life (unless they get overrun by someone else, which can happen at any stage).
In a way, one could argue it's actually a mark of success of the regime, because slipping into your own echo chamber properly takes time, and can happen only if there are no real crisis that will give you a good kicking that can't be (at that time) put onto something else..
